A lighthouse is a structure found in/on or near a body of water, containing a beacon, with a purpose to guide mariners safely to a destination. A lighthouse is also a majestic structure with a long history of stories to tell. A shipwreck, an attack by an enemy, a visual reassurance of safety by day or night. It was a workplace for a loyal keeper. Each lighthouse is uniquely identifiable by day due to the shape, color, and size of the structure and by night due to the color and flash pattern of its light.

This site is a work in progress. It is an effort to document and glorify the lighthouses that play/played such an important role in the maritime history of the United States. This site is dedicated to the indelible service of our nations lighthouse keepers and their families who must often endure harsh living conditions and the most challenging weather systems to honorably maintain the light.
